Your attention is drawn to the fact that under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act,1974 you may be entitled to answer ‘no’ to this question even if you have, in the past, been subjected to criminal proceedings resulting in conviction(s). However, certain types of employment are excluded under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemptions) Order 1975, from the protection of the Act. It is therefore, suggested that you take appropriate advice if you are in any doubt as to the correct answer to give.

The disclosure of a criminal record will not prevent your appointment unless the conviction makes you unsuitable for the apprenticeship. In making the decision the following will be considered the nature of the offence(s), how long ago and what age you were and any other factors which may be relevant.Failure to declare a conviction may, however, disqualify you from an appointment, or result in the termination of your contract if the discrepancy comes to light.

Entitlement to Work in the UK

Current legislation means that you will need to provide documentary evidence (for example your passport and National Insurance number) showing your entitlement to work in the UK if you are appointed. You should be aware that you will be asked to provide this before you take up your job.
